Thank You to all who voted for the St. Joseph's High School

Thanks to everyone who helped us and participated in the Partners in Preservation grant competition!  Without you, we could not have succeeded, and we deeply appreciate your tireless voting, attendance at the Open House, and story sharing.

The popular vote was won on May 17, 2009, by the Paragon Carousel in Hull.  Our hats go off to them.

CBA and St Joseph's High School racked up a number of accomplishments during the course of the competition.  Just as our mission to create affordable housing was unique amongst all the other competitors, so was our blog, PreserveStJoes.com, which we will continue to update as St. Joseph's High School is converted from classrooms to bedrooms.  We also worked with students from Lowell Catholic High School to record stories from the community at the Open House.  This creative collaboration resulted in many of the stories listed below, as well as a mini-documentary film.  We also created a beautiful artifact for the 22 families who will one day call St. Joseph's their home; this message board collected messages of goodwill from the Open House visitors.

During the month-long competition, we published 17 stories on PreserveStJoes.com.  Our special thanks go to Robert BelangerMyrna CarrascoBerta CordobaAmy and Elizabeth FrechetteSuzanne FrechetteJeff FugateSr. Lillian Lamoureux, Robyn Long-NavasBrian Murphy, the Ramirez Inocence familyEmily Weitzman RosenbaumAdam SandelliRaymond TremblayCongresswoman Niki TsongasMark WatsonMichele Witts, and Norman Zarella.  We also heartily thank Nancy, Esperando nueva vida, denise, Lisa, ALF, Goose, and Suze for posting their stories on our Partners in Preservation community page.  Altogether, you have painted a compelling portrait of how the St. Joseph's High School has impacted their lives, families, the Acre neighborhood, and the City of Lowell.

We also received tremendous support from leaders in the Community. Our sincere thanks go to Mayor Bud Caulfield, City Manager Bernard Lynch, and Councilor James Milinazzo for attending our Open House on May 2, 2009.  A few days later, Mayor Caulfield also interviewed CBA's Executive Director, Emily Weitzman Rosenbaum, for the May 14, 2009, edition of the "Mayor's Corner" segment of LTC Municipal Channel 10; this conversation is available as a streaming .mwv video and can be viewed with RealPlayer, Quicktime, etc.  As you will note above, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas submitted the story of her support for the building.  And, finally, local media institutions—namely the Lowell Sun, Lowell.com, and WUML—all provided excellent coverage of our participation in the contest.  For links to all of our press appearances, please visit the press page of our website
